Dastrup Daily

Every day between Kingston's last nap and bed, it is always a game to figure out how to keep him entertained without him getting fussy or getting tired. We have fun playing with his toys. He saw a roll of toilet paper and grabbed it faster than I could, resulting in him very excitedly shoving a bunch of toilet paper in his mouth.
He is my favorite walking buddy. I always tell him: "You're my best friend besides daddy!" Nobody beats daddy in my book, but Kingston sure does come close! His blue eyes melt my heart.
The picture below. It is hilarious and sad at the same time. Holy Stranger Danger! My mom came over a little over a month ago and hadn't been here for a while. As soon as she held Kingston he cried while making this face. So cute and sad and funny.
On March 4th Rex and I went to the LDS Expo at UVU. It was basically a social media conference. Right when we walked in, we met Jenn Blosil who was on American Idol this season.
Chicken breasts were on sale at Macey's for $1.29/lb so we bought a 40 lb box and spent about 3 hours after Kingston was asleep cutting, meal prepping, and bagging the chicken. It was fun to work together and know that we were saving money.
I had to wake Kingston up a couple times (doctor appointment and maybe for church or something) recently and I had to take a picture of how cute he looked!!! He sometimes sleeps on his back and sometimes his stomach. The bum in the air...I can't even.
We went to my dad's house on March 13th to take family pictures and spend some time together. I am SO glad we got this amazing picture and that Kingston is smiling. What a cutie. Doesn't he just brighten up your day?!
Kingston is most satisfied when he can get his hands on anything that is not a "baby toy" (he's too grown up for his own good). He loves to suck on things he shouldn't put in his mouth, like his diaper bag.
We still have this bassinet in our living room because it is a good place we can set Kingston for a few minutes to keep him entertained while we get something done. Yeah, except for the fact that he is almost ripping the lambs off the mobile.
I got sssooo excited while spring cleaning a couple weeks ago. I deep organized everything I could in our house and got rid of 3 huge garbage bags of stuff, including all these glass jars I was apparently keeping for some reason. I'm pretty sure I kept them all because I planned to find some way to use them for a craft. Probably not going to happen haha, so in the trash they went.

Kingston eats baby food now!!! We started with rice cereal and he has loved everything he has eaten with the exception of avocados (he ate them once I mixed them with peaches). So far, his menu consists of: green beans, carrots, peas, butternut squash, apples + prunes, pears, peaches, rice cereal, and sweet potatoes. Feeding time is fun because Kingston gets so excited.
On Sunday, March 20, Rex and I decided to take a little walk before Kingston went to bed. It was sunny out so I thought, "Oh, I should go get that hat he's never worn and see if it fits." Rex and I were laughing so hard we couldn't breathe when I put the hat on Kingston. I don't know why, but it was so so funny. The chin strap was way too tight for his chubby neck. He's such a good sport.
Such a handsome guy. Since I'm with Kingston all day every day, sometimes it's hard for me to see how he has grown. I look at his pictures from this hospital and I think he looks the same hahaha.
Love the extra 6 month pictures. The top right: of course when Kingston is actually sad it breaks my heart in a million pieces, but when he is just being dramatic, he is seriously THE cutest little sad faced baby and it makes me laugh every time.
Luckily, Kingston takes a nap at church each week (usually 2 short naps). It is nice to hold him while he sleeps and feel his sweet spirit.

Life Lately

Lately we've been busy eating, playing, sleeping, and repeating. When Kingston goes to bed Rex and I usually do homework together or watch Netflix. I'm anxious for the warmer weather to hurry up so we can add more sunlight vitamin D to our lives. Our trips to walk around Costco just aren't quite cutting it. Here's what we have been up to :)

Kingston enjoys sitting in his high chair next to Rex and me while we eat. He hasn't eaten baby food yet, but I made some frozen breastmilk ice cubes and he has enjoyed sucking on some of those in his netted feeder.

The other day my mom and I went to Target and by the time we checked out, Kingston was very ready for a nap. He was fussy so we gave him one of my mom's business cards to play with. Well, he got drool on his face when he was trying to suck on it and then it got stuck to his face haha. I hate seeing my baby sad, but he is just so dang cute when his lower lip sticks out...and when he has paper stuck to his face.
I babysat my niece and nephew last week. We played Spot It and played with the letters from the game Bananagrams. And of course they wanted an apple, as usual.
The biggest change for our family lately is that we have been working on helping Kingston fall asleep on his own. I do love our cuddles but I just couldn't do it anymore. I was spending more than 8 hours a day in his room trying to nurse or rock him to sleep, often while he cried/screamed. I never wanted to get into a habit of nursing to sleep or having to have him be dead asleep when I set him down. But let's be honest...there were lots of things I was never going to do as a mother. Each day still consists of lots of crying (for both of us) while Kingston learns to fall asleep on his own. The other day the nap schedule was all off and Kingston fell asleep on me. I didn't mind one bit. I loved seeing his beautiful sleeping face. He is so sweet.
As part of sleep training, we had to transition Kingston out of a swaddle, so we started using a Zipadee Zip. He is so cute in his Santa star-fish type wearable blanket (the hands and feet are covered). I bought it used and it has a Santa pattern all over it. It was way cheaper so I didn't care! Every time I go in his room, I have to search to find him in his crib because he moves around so much.
My boys are seriously the best. They bring so much joy to my life.
We borrowed this bouncer from my sister in law. We haven't used it much and Kingston hasn't figured out how to jump yet, but he is enjoying exploring the toys and I'm sure it won't be long before he wants to jump all day.
I bought this bassinet used and originally wanted to use it in our room for the first couple months after Kingston was born. I didn't end up using it because we had a pack n play with a bassinet on it, so I put it in the living room. It has been SO nice to have in there. I can set him in the bassinet, turn on the lamb mobile, and he will stay occupied for a while. But holy smokes, the kid is so tall! He barely fits anymore. And as you can see, he is discovering new aspects of the bassinet (and of everything in the house). He probably wants to eat it since chewing on things is his favorite hobby.
Hehe - bipolar baby.
Lately while Kingston eats, he insists on touching my face. Touching, pinching, clawing, rubbing. Aside from feeling like he is going to make me bleed sometimes, I absolutely love it. He is so soft and I love that he wants to be close to me. I also love making him smile while he is nursing because it's so fun to see the corners of his mouth turn up into a smile.
I hadn't put Kingston in the stroller for a walk in months. My friend called and asked if we wanted to come over. Her little boy and Kingston have the same birthday. It is so fun to see them together and know that they are the exact same age. Stroller pictures of Kingston are the cutest! I love my little bundled babe!

First 4 months. He'll be FIVE whole entire months next week! Crazy.
